Simon Property Group will begin the renovation The Copley Place, the high-end retail center in Boston’s Back Bay.

The Copley Place expansion project will add nearly 2 million square feet of retail and residential space. The first phase include’s flooring, ceiling and escalator upgrades and an upscale food court.  The interior retail work is a part of Simon’s $500 million, with a new 52-story, 542-unit residential tower that’s currently under construction.

The retail expansion and residential programming are designed to dramatically improve the site’s character, refine the overall pedestrian experience, and support sustainable design goals, with the development team stating a commitment to achieving LEED Silver Certification.

The Copley Place is famoues for its upscale stores, including Ralph Lauren, John Varvatos, Michael Kors, Christian Dior, Tory Burch, Porsche Design, Tiffany & Co., David Yurman, Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, and Salvatore Ferragamo.

Simon will also add a number of retailers including CH Carolina Herrera, Moncler and Versace. Existing locations for Tory Burch and L.K. Bennet will be expanded, while the existing Banana Republic and Eileen Fisher stores will be relocated within the center.
