King of Prussia Mall

About this mall

King of Prussia mall is known as the largest in the U.S, based on retail space for lease.  It is located in King of Prussia, Upper Merion Township, Pennsylvania.  It consists of two sections.  The Plaza, anchored by Sears, Neiman Marcus, J.C. Penney, Nordstrom and Lord & Taylor, and the Court, anchored by Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s, including the Pavilion.

Background
Kravco Company started the development.  The oldest section of the mall, the Plaza, was opened during 1963 as a basic open-air centre, anchored by J.C. Penney, E.J. Korvette and an Acme supermarket.  This section prospered and was turned into an enclosed mall during the 1970s.  During the early 1990s, demand prompted interest from upscale retailers.  The problem at the time was that the Court had no space for expansion and the Plaza could not house the upscale stores.  Kravco decided to rebuild the Plaza to the same level as the Court and merge the two as one unit. Currently, Simon Property Group from Indianapolis owns 97% of the mall that now boasts more than 400 stores and restaurants.
