Raffles City

About this mall

Situated in the Civic District close to historic and tourist sites, Raffles City Shopping Centre is a haven for consumers looking for luxury items. The mall is part of a mixed-use development comprising a shopping centre, an office tower, two hotels and a convention centre.
Groundbreaking on the site took place on 14 August 1980 and officially opened to the public on 3 October 1986. On 19 March 2006, CapitaLand’s real estate investment trust (REIT), CapitaCommercial Trust and CapitaMall Trust jointly acquired the development fr om Raffles Holdings for S$2.09 billion. On 20 August 2006, the new owners announced their plans to expand the retail space between 150,000 to 200,000 sq ft (19,000 m2) from its current 356,000 sq ft (33,100 m2), by using the space on the carpark floors on basements two and three.
Built on the site of a former school (Raffles Institution), Raffles City is downtown shopping at its finest. The mall has a number of luxury and designer stores such as Omega, Thomas Sabo, Cortefiel and Tommy Hilfiger, among others. Here, you’ll also find big department stores like Marks & Spencer and Robinsons, and fashion chains like Topshop, River Island and Skyla. In fact, Raffles City covers most shopping bases with fashion, books, music, sports, toys, eyewear and beauty all available above the City Hall MRT station, which makes getting here all the more convenient.
Location and accessibility
Raffles City Shopping Centre is situated in the city’s most strategic location right in the heart of Singapore. It is easily reached by major expressways and is barely a twenty-minute drive from the Changi International Airport via the East Coast Expressway.
Raffles City is linked directly to the City Hall MRT Interchange Station which connects the financial and commercial centres of Shenton Way and Raffles Place, the shopping centres and the tourist belt at Orchard Road with the residential estates to the north, east and west of Singapore. The station is one of the two interchange stations linking the north-south lines with the east-west lines. With the opening of a new link at Basement 2, it is now served by a third MRT line – the Circle Line, which is the Esplanade MRT Station.
Covered walkways link the stations to Raffles City. Regardless of weather conditions and traffic on the roads, all the facilities in Raffles City are readily accessible and conveniently available under one roof.

Features mall architecture
Famous Chinese-American architect I.M. Pei (born Ieoh Ming Pei) was the person responsible for the design of Raffles City. The concept he had in mind was to make it look like a smaller city within a huge city – something architectural complexes were lacking of during the time. During the planning and funding process, Raffles City was the largest city development project in Singapore’s history to that date and was also one of I.M. Pei’s early designs for the infrastructures in Singapore. The site wh ere the complex was to be built happens to be the former location of Singapore’s oldest school, Raffles Institution, after the construction of the new campus was completed.
Planning
A mixed-use development comprising a shopping centre, an office tower, two hotels and a convention centre. Ruffles City Shopping Cente buzzing with convenience and extensive offerings from exciting new fashion tenants, enhanced food and beverage (F&B) choices at Basement 1 to beauty-on-the-go at the Basement 2 Link way, there is definitely something for everyone at Raffles City.
