Sawgrass Mills offers visitors in excess of 350 stores, such as Tommy Hilfiger, Nike and Gap, along with several value retailers. The mall is enclosed and climate controlled. There are about 40 exclusive outlets that shoppers cannot find anywhere else within South Florida. These include Salvatore Ferragamo Company Store and Burberry Factory Outlet.
The first phase of the mall was done in two stages. The first was opened on October 4, 1990, with the Sears Outlet wing placed at the eastern end, passing the Garden Food Court and ending with the Books-A-Million store at the western end of the complex.
The second stage, opened on November 15, 1990, extended past the Books-A-Million store, the second food court, to the Neiman Marcus Last Call Clearance Center area.
During November 1995, a phase two addition was completed, running parallel to the middle mall corridor. The addition was followed by the Oasis extension which opened on April 15, 1999. During 2002, a parking garage was added and the last extension during 2009 went from Wannado City to the Colonnade Outlet.
